As another lively summer draws to a close, we ponder the remarkable journeys of enthusiastic young learners. Preface's 2023 International Summer Programme united aspiring technologists worldwide for a dynamic two-week event of coding, cultural exchange, and exploration. Spanning Tokyo, London, Singapore, and Hong Kong, this year's program was a whirlwind of education, personal development, and cherished memories. We express heartfelt gratitude to SCMP Young Post for their feature, "The World Is Our Classroom," highlighting our unique blend of education and exploration. Their support amplified our message, inspiring more young minds worldwide.
In Week 1, participants embarked on a technology immersion during the Coding Bootcamp. Guided by mentors, they sharpened coding skills, grasping programming languages and effective problem-solving. Beyond coding, the experience sparked curiosity and nurtured a tech-driven passion for their future pursuits.
Week 2 presented the ultimate challenge: a UNESCO-backed Hackathon. Building on prior knowledge, participants collaborated on real-world projects, leveraging their coding prowess for inventive solutions. The Hackathon cultivated technical adeptness alongside teamwork, communication, and critical thinking. Within two engaging tracks - A.I. & Data Science and Metaverse Entrepreneurship - students charted their course into artificial intelligence or the burgeoning virtual reality realm. This impactful week aligned with global initiatives, underlining commitment to practical solutions and future-focused skills.
Amid the scenic landscapes of the United Kingdom, students immersed themselves in a world of contrasts, from Oxford's venerable halls to Google and GoodNotes' modern tech hubs. London's cultural epicenter became their classroom as they ventured through landmarks, museums, and neighborhoods, witnessing the fusion of tradition and technology, igniting their drive to shape the future.
Tokyo's blend of ancient temples and cutting-edge technology provided a unique backdrop for exploration. Amid the vibrant cityscape, young coders developed skills, learned, and created. Interactions with Web 3 companies and tech innovators bridged the digital divide, showcasing the dynamic interplay between cultural heritage and digital progress.
Within Singapore's bustling cityscape, a global innovation hub, participants from True Light Middle School in Hong Kong embarked on a 10-day STEM tour. Sixteen students from S1 to S3 enjoyed an immersive experience merging education with exploration. Against the backdrop of lush Gardens by the Bay and Sentosa's futuristic marvels, these aspiring technocrats dived into a realm of limitless creativity and opportunity.
Hong Kong, a dynamic crossroads of cultures and commerce, provided an avenue for participants to explore tech entrepreneurship. Through school and company visits, they gained insights into the local tech ecosystem. In partnership with UNESCO, the hackathon took the spotlight, enabling these young minds to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals and make their mark on the world.
Preface International Summer Programme 2023 surpassed geographical limits, uniting young minds from varied origins through technology and innovation. It honored ingenuity, adaptability, and collaborative strength. As participants returned home, they bore newfound knowledge and indelible memories from an unforgettable journey that set the stage for their forthcoming pursuits.
